I used to think that Winter was my favourite season. I convinced myself so wholly of this that I devoted my closet to wool and khaki and now every time I open the door it horrifies me. It's spring now, but it feels like summer and that makes me very, very happy. Neon! This is my summer wishlist...What is on yours?

collector's item

Some of fashion's elite recently scouted some modern day pieces for Style.com's 'Buy Now, Hurray Later", which they predict will be the "vintage of the future" i.e. highly coveted collectibles in the years to come. It was one of the most interesting things I'd read in a long while, and I wish my Mum had bloody read it (thanks Daddy for keeping all your Levi's)!. You can check out their picks here, but to give you a quick snapshot some of the choices were McQueen's last collection, Phoebe Philo's first for Celine, Viktor and Rolf's tulle dresses, the Olympia Le-Tan book clutches, and a black Chanel dress from Spring 2011.

I thought I might add to the list with a few picks of my own...

The ubiquitous leather, leopard and mini everything of the past few years have seen vamp become a trend in itself; you can now step out in a leather mini, fur coat and red lipstick and be lauded by the fashion gods rather than mistaken for a hooker. I'm not opposed to this at all, but I'm drawn to the subdued version much more so, because I'm a sucker for comfort and have a penchant for layering. Alexa Chung embodies this "understated sexniness" as she labels it, so perfectly - maintaining that allure without just emanating pure sex. Those little divergences - flats and low heels instead of sky-high Loubs, kitsch-y pieces instead of diamonds and thick knits thrown over everything - coupled with the constant of high hemlines are so perfect. I feel such a cliche writing a style post about Alexa, but there is just no one who does it quite like her.

ADR in Little Miss Maximalist

I could preach about  minimalism all day - I'm addicted to that streamlined, uncomplicated wonderland. It's hard to do so though, after seeing these pictures of ADR's apartment. First of all, let me preface this by saying that I absolutely love her. She's so fabulous, isn't she - so much more exciting than most fashion people. Thus, I may be a little bias, but after seeing an editorial in W of her apartment all I wanted to do was go out and buy clutter and paint everything gold. That leopard print is pretty enticing too.

I was at a beach side cafe once when I saw a 20-something girl in a pink, white & yellow kaftan, wayfarers, bare-footed and fresh faced with her hair pulled back into a bun. That was three years ago and to this day I still hold that girl's look as the epitomy of effortlessly chic summer dressing. She looked so fresh, so cool. I searched high and low for a kaftan like her's, and while I didn't find one I became entranced with many others - the outrageously beautiful prints and hues are irresistable. While they may have these intricate patterns they are simultaneously simple, just something you throw on and walk out the door. They can be dressed up - heels, a myriad of jewelry - but that isn't what kaftans are about to me; they should be left uncomplicated.

christmas wishlist

While a White Christmas is a particularly enchanting idea, I just can't envision Christmas without sweltering heat and poolside barbeques. There's something about the combination of it all, the glittering water, the seafood, the scorching sun that creates a wonderful, ebullient atmosphere and is so refreshing. I suppose this is true of Australian summer in general, which has grown on me after the ridiculously awful weather. The vibrant hues - the rich orange of lobster shell encasing beautifully white flesh, the delicious pink of watermelons and my favourite, the unimaginably pure aqua of the ocean to name a few - are so beautifully unadulterated. Simple and uncomplicated. So this Christmas my wishlist is focused around channeling this sartorially, and I thought these might come in handy...

This will probably sound incredibly ridiculous but I watched the Miley Cyrus bong video and all I could concentrate on was her insanely beautiful Pamela Love Arrowhead Ring. I've drooled over it a million times on Polyvore, but never seen it gracing someones finger. Speaking broadly, it isn't particularly versatile, yet in terms of my style it would be; I would wear this anytime, with anything. I love that her collections have somewhat of a Gothic, haunting undertone yet manage to be exceptionally sophisticated. Her famous talon cuff is pretty spectacular too...

the perfect skirt.

I was doing a bit of wistful browsing when I came across this pleated leather skirt from the Alice + Olivia F/W Collection. I'm not usually an A+O girl, but I can't fault this skirt, it's incredible. It can be moulded to suit almost any style, but while so versatile it is still a stand out piece, which is no mean feat. It also has pleats, leather & a high hemline - and I'm a sucker for each of these so you can imagine how I feel about all three in one piece! Whenever I browse through outfits I go crazy for the opulent, statement looks yet in practise I always opt for minimalism. I'm not sure why, call me lazy but nothing beats a fresh white shirt paired with some vintage shorts and docs. In redecorating my bedroom I've realised that the same applies to my approach towards interior design; I could spend ages devouring glamorous homes overflowing with colour, yet I'm a sucker for clean white minimalism.
